Who Should Use the InsoFire Car Fire Blanket?

The InsoFire Car Fire Blanket is designed for a wide range of environments where vehicle fires pose a significant safety or property risk. It provides an immediate, effective response to fire incidents involving electric, hybrid, or combustion-engine vehicles — preventing escalation and minimizing collateral damage.

  • Underground parking areas: Ideal for confined spaces where smoke and toxic gases can quickly accumulate, helping to contain vehicle fires before they spread.
  • Motorway and highway service operators: Essential for rapid response teams and maintenance crews along motorways or expressways, where vehicle fires may occur in traffic zones.
  • Service and charging stations: Provides immediate containment for EV or hybrid vehicle fires during charging or maintenance operations.
  • Tunnels: Effective in enclosed environments where conventional firefighting may be delayed or difficult to deploy.
  • Parking lots and multi-story car parks: Prevents fire from spreading to adjacent vehicles and reduces smoke damage to the structure.
  • Ferry parking facilities: A vital safety measure for car decks on ferries where fires can endanger both passengers and crew.
  • Firefighting and emergency services: Used by professional firefighters as a first-response containment tool to isolate vehicle fires efficiently.
  • Plug-in chargeable forklifts and industrial EVs: Protects warehouses, logistics hubs, and industrial facilities from potential lithium-ion battery fires.
  • Machine tools and production equipment: Serves as a flexible barrier for containing fires in manufacturing environments with machinery and electrical systems.
  • Garages and workshops: Provides a secure, reusable solution for automotive repair centers handling EVs, hybrids, or fuel-powered vehicles.

Key Benefits of the InsoFire Car Fire Blanket

  • Complete fire containment: Nothing penetrates the blanket — it blocks fire and drastically reduces toxic smoke and gas emissions.
  • Rapid deployment: Simple, fast, and safe to use — enabling immediate control of fire outbreaks without waiting for firefighting equipment.
  • Prevents escalation: Significantly reduces the risk of fire spreading to nearby vehicles or structures, protecting people and property.
  • Minimizes secondary damage: Helps prevent smoke and soot contamination in underground or enclosed parking areas.
  • Environmentally safer: Reduces toxic gas release, aligning with green building and clean energy safety requirements.

The main goal of the InsoFire Car Fire Blanket is to control vehicle fires at the source — suffocating the flames quickly, reducing heat and smoke, and ensuring the safety of surrounding people, vehicles, and property.

How to Deploy the InsoFire Car Fire Blanket

How to Use the Car Fire Blanket – Step-by-Step Guide

Deploying the fire blanket effectively requires at least two trained operators wearing full PPE and SCBA. The process involves careful positioning and secure coverage to ensure complete containment of the fire while avoiding damage to the blanket.

Step 1 – Preparation

Ensure the blanket is sized appropriately for the vehicle. Unroll it and position it behind the car or in the intended deployment direction.

Note: Always wear full PPE and SCBA when deploying or handling any fire blanket exposed to fire. A minimum of two persons is required.

Step 2 – Positioning

Grab the handles, raise the blanket high, and briskly walk it toward the burning vehicle. Keep direct contact with the car to a minimum, as sharp edges can damage the fabric.

Step 3 – Coverage

Center the blanket over the vehicle using the marking points. Make sure it touches the ground on all sides and press down any gaps where air may enter.

Step 4 – Securing

Use the strap to wrap the base of the blanket around the bottom of the car. This helps cut off oxygen and prevents the blanket from lifting in high winds. Tools or weights can be used to reinforce the seal.

Step 5 – Monitoring

Once deployed, monitor the scene with a thermal imaging camera to assess temperature and hotspots.

Note: It is best practice to spray the outer surface of the blanket with water and, if possible, use an EV nozzle underneath the car to assist with cooling. The blanket helps contain and isolate the fire until the energy source is fully depleted.

Fire in Electric Vehicles

Follow steps 1–3 as above. Once the blanket is sealed to the ground, wait 2–3 minutes and listen. If you hear strong “fuzz” sounds every 3–15 seconds, a thermal runaway is in progress. Leave the blanket on until the noise stops—this prevents fire spread between battery cells.

Note: The car fire blanket is not approved for magnesium fires.
